This is a decent introduction to the idea. See this short chapter in the book listed below. To introduce yourself to Inkscape, you should first understand the difference between a raster and a vector graphics image/program. See the Inkscape Download page for installation instructions. Contributions to Inkscape are tax deductible in the United States. Inkscape is a member of the Software Freedom Conservancy, a US 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Help and support is provided by the community, and there are lots of ways for you to get involved if you want to help improve the Inkscape project.

The Inkscape project has a growing international user community, and many learning materials exist to help get you started with your creations. It has a comprehensive feature set, a simple interface, multi-lingual support and is designed to be extensible users can customize Inkscape's functionality with add-ons. It can import and export various file formats, including SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, PS and PNG. Inkscape has sophisticated drawing tools with capabilities comparable to Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW and Xara Xtreme. Inkscape uses the W3C open standard SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) as its native format, and is free and open-source software. It is used by design professionals and hobbyists worldwide, for creating a wide variety of graphics such as illustrations, icons, logos, diagrams, maps and web graphics. I do not usually save scut files if I have the svg and now I know that I don't have to, at least right now until I finish playing.Inkscape is professional quality vector graphics software which runs on Windows, Mac OS X and GNU/Linux. Just from within Inkscape just export to sCAL.!!! YEAH!!! It appears that now we don't have to import an svg, trace it and do whatever. I was not asked for a file name or anything it just said exporting.Ībout the time I was going to look on my desktop for a file eCAL started to open and the text page opened, the letters are clear and each one is in it's own layer.

I wasn't sure if I should have saved the file or not so I didn't and just went on faith. Selected extensions/export in Inkscape and it said send to ecal. I typed some words in Inkscape, converted to paths, ungrouped and did a union on some and not on others. Heretofore text, especially script fonts in Inkscape didn't trace nicely in SCAL so I tried it first to see what would happen.
